hams

THE HAMS!!! There are only five here cause the sixth baby is the runt.. too small and still has it's eyes closed. So these are our five little ones! Too much fun playing with them and watching them fall asleep in your hands. ADORABLE.

Little Hams!!

Today, our baby hams opened their eyes and began roaming the cage!! Didn't last too long though and they're back to sleeping constantly. Mom (Olivia) doesn't seem to want to be with them as much and has been doing her own thing today. Dad (Eliott) is still in the other cage and I think he's beginning to become depressed because of his isolation. As soon as the boys are old enough, they will be put in with him.. this is why we have two cages.

Two brown ones (like this little guy/girl) like Olivia, two blonde ones like Eliott, the other two I can't recall cause they're hiding under Olivia, but one of them is a greyish-blue and it's totally my favorite! They will all have Law and Order: SVU names like their mom and dad soon.

Color me silly

My skinny donkey. Color soon.

Character Development

Last night I began working on some new characters which will hopefully make it to the photoshop stage. Sometimes it's hard for me to fall in love with a character enough to want to take it to the next level. Last night's sketches began with copying the Locos logo off of my boyfriend's to-go cup. I was clearly bored, but after that was finished, I felt I was warmed up enough to take on creating something new.

The main page shows an array for characters. starting from the left is my otter. I changed some things about his face to make him more otter-like. I'm still having a difficult time nailing the likeness of a true otter, but I'm getting closer. I put the tiny sea horse in the middle because they're so cute and tiny. My new character, the bear, has his head shot on the right hand side of the page. I really like how I drew him without thinking anything would come of the image. I ended up basing other drawings on that head shot. I put his head on a bear's body in the lower left hand corner, but I think the body looks more like an adult bear than a cubs. As far as the last bear on the right, I don't like him so we can just ignore him lol.

I blew up the bear face just so you could see details better. I really like the way that his mouth seems to be wider than say the otter. This gives the illusion that he has a snout, and makes him more bear-like. The 'star' spot on his head helps him stand out from other bears and adds cuteness. I also love the perky ears and his little teeth. All in all, I'm stoked on further rendering this bear cub so he can join the character group on my website.

Lastly, this otter was the finished version of a compilation of drawings. I mentioned earlier that I spent some time last night trying to work out a cartoonish otter, and I think this drawing encompassed my illustrations as well as the lifelike photographs I had found. Plus he seems really happy and perky.

Thanks for reading! Today will be a fun day.. we're making a trip to petsmart and having lunch downtown. Then later, I get to visit the Illustration building and color these characters! Hopefully I will have another update tonight. Have a lovely day!

sketching

so lately i've been working on some sketches. Trying to find a job has become my new full-time job! So finding time to do some drawing has proven to be difficult... but I do enjoy it when I can!

The first image is a logo I did for my boyfriend's sister. She's a hospitality major and wanted something that didn't consist mainly of a pineapple (which is commonly seen paired with hospitality) so I used a beautiful flamingo holding a plate of fruits in an inviting manor and the center piece is indeed a pineapple. I would have put this into photoshop to finish it, but she only needed a sketch.

The second sketch is my dog Riley. I spent a while sketching him in real life, then ended up cartooning him in my own way. I believe I truly captured his personality by giving him a larger head and ears, and keeping him fluffy and alert. Today I plan to do some photoshop work.. I haven't in a few weeks and I am VERY excited about it!
